What
is SlovInUS News?
Welcome
to the first issue of SlovInUS News, a bi-weekly
newsletter for Slovenian communities in the
United States. As its name suggests, this
newsletter is meant for Slovenians, their
descendants, and friends living across the U.S.
The
main purpose of SlovInUS News is to unite
Slovenians in this country and to create a vast
and strong virtual Slovenian community, one that
will be able to build new bridges with the
mother country and other Slovenian communities
around the world. There may never be a Slovenian
Town, Little Slovenia, or Slovenian
Quarter in any American city, but we can be just
as strong, recognized, and fascinating entity in
the virtual world.

Running
as Meditation
Interview
with a "running ambassador".
A
couple of years ago I started entertaining the
idea of running a marathon but wasn't quite
sure. You know, it's a long run. Then I've heard
about noble efforts of the Slovenian Ambassador
to the United State Samuel Zbogar to raise funds
for rehabilitation of young victims of land
mines by running marathons (read more about that
at www.ambassadorruns.org.)
That
inspired and motivated me so much that I decided
to "join" the ambassador at the Marine
Corps Marathon in Washington. On the one hand I
thought that would be the least I could do to
support the ambassador's cause, on the other
hand it felt like I had a running partner, even
if only on a mental level.
That's
why this interview is about running.
How
was the Boston marathon?
Boston
was a beautiful race. That was one of the best
days of my life. You can't believe it. It was
amazing. They drive you by bus 26 miles out of
Boston and then you run into the city. There are
thousands of people along the way, and they are
all cheering and offering food, water, tissue,
or whatever you need. Read

Resource
Directory
Would you know
who to call in our Slovenian communities if you
wanted to order Potica, take Slovenian lessons,
get a document translated, book a trip, hire a
web or fashion designer, you name it.
The fact is
that all these products and services are offered
by members of our communities as well as by
general public. The question is: Where will you
get what you need?
Yes, we look
for the best offer but what if it comes from a
member of our community? That's where the
idea for resource directory came from.
We invite you
to tell us about your service, product,
interest. Fill
out a form >>.
We will
publish link to the web site in every
newsletter.

Useful

Many
other Slovenian newsletters, magazines, web
sites and clubs are out there. Let us mention
few of them::
Check
Slovenian
Embassy's web site for more information
about that.

Interest
Groups
We don't want
to provide just space to share information about
services and products that members of Slovenian
communities in the US have to offer. Our virtual
community should also be a space where its
members share information about their interests
or hobbies or passions, whatever you want to
call it..
By reading
this newsletter you already know that I like
running and I embrace every opportunity that I
get to talk to a fellow runner, exchange
information, advice, or suggestion.
Another
passion of mine are personal development and,
closely related to that, books.
So, I've just
suggested the following interest groups or
clubs: running, personal development, reading.
In that regard I'd like to share with you my
favorite books on:
