Dear SlovInUS News readers,

After four successful years during which he recited Presern at the celebration of Slovenian Cultural Day at his residency, raised money for a good cause by running, ... popular ambassador  Samuel Zbogar left the US few days ago. He was kind enough to talked to us for the first issue of our newsletter (In case you missed that interview you can read it here>>.) SlovInUS News wishes him and his family all the best.

Kres to Hold Annual Performance 

The Slovenian folk dancing group, Folklorna skupina Kres proudly presents its annual performance which will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 7:00 p.m at the Slovenian National Home.

Consisting of 135 dancers ranging in age from kindergarten to college-aged, the group promises to thrill audiences with contagiously energetic Slovenian polkas, lively skits and song, as well as traditional dances originating from the various regions of beautiful Slovenia .

Folklorna skupina Kres extends a most sincere invitation to attend the September 13 performance which will be followed by dancing with food and drink available throughout the evening. 

Tickets are $15.00 for all adult tickets and table seats, and $5.00 for all child balcony and child floor seating.

"Thank you for having the light on."

I was on my regular weekly long run yesterday morning at 5 when a bicyclist came from the opposite direction and said: "Thank you for having the light on." (I was wearing one of those head lamps that people use for camping, riding a bicycle and every more often runners as well.)

Obviously, that made me think. Namely, I hadn't used a lamp until recently, when got scared too often by little bunnies jumping right in front of me and some deer standing quietly in the dark until I was right next to it and then started stampeding in front of my nose. So, the lamp was a logical consequence of those close encounters. It hadn't crossed my mind that it would be smart to make myself visible to faster trail users such as bicyclists. 

I had another hour to go in the dark and decide to count how many runners had a lamp and how many were without any reflecting objects. I was pleasantly surprised to see that half of them had a lamp.

Slovenian Traditional Dance Group Kres from Cleveland has joined as (see separate article about their upcoming performance) as well as my favorite grocery store Euro Foods from Alexandria. I know for a fact that many Slovenians from wider area (some drive close to hundred miles to get their favorite products) shop at this "Bosnian" store, where they offer Fructal juices, Radenska, and Cocta, kajmak, Turkish coffee, Bajadera and Ledene kocke, Eurocream and hundreds of other product from Slovenia, Bosnian, Croatia etc.
