ANNOUNCEMENTS
Bishop
Baraga Days
The
Slovenian communities of Northern Illinois are sponsoring the 2008 Bishop
Baraga Days which will be held on September 27 and 28.
On
Saturday, September 27th, mass will be held in one of the most
beautiful Slovenian churches in the USA, St. Joseph in Joliet. The liturgy
starts with a concert of Marian hymns in both English and Slovenian at
5:15pm. Mass begins at 6:00pm with Bishop Sartain of Joliet as the
principal celebrant. We are encouraging people to come earlier and visit
the Museum of the Slovenian Women’s Union. Fr. Bernard Horzen, the
spiritual director of the KSKJ will be signing copies of his recently
published autobiography, Maybe Be Rain.
The
Sunday liturgy will be in Slovenian and begins with the Marian Litanies
sung in Slovenian at the site of the American Brezje, The Franciscan
monastery in Lemont which is also the home of the Slovenian Catholic
Mission. Litanies start at 1:30pm in the chapel and will be followed by an
outdoor Mass in Baraga Park on the grounds at 2:30pm. Rev. Dr. Drago
Ocvirk will be the principal celebrant. The annual meeting and banquet of
the Bishop Baraga Society will follow the mass immediately at
5:00pm.
