| 2010 MCM 2010, Washington, DC (Comming Up October 31) Rosaryville 50K, Upper Marlboro, MD (5:18:36) Nice run in Rosaryville State Park, all shaded on a single man trail, three circles around 10M each. Highlands Sky Trail Run 40M, June 19 (8:39:14) Nice run in the West Virginia mountains. Massanutten Mountain Trails 100M, May 15-16, (30h 50min): A well organized event over trails of the Massanutten Mountain in the George Washington National Forest in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. ICY 8-hour Trail Run and 24-hour Trail Run (8h = 40M; 24h = 72M): I first competed in the 8-hr run and after finishing it I continued on with 24-hr run. Race takes place in Prince William Forest Park under the Athletic Equation organization.
Bull Run Run 50M (9:04:46): The Bull Run Run is a beautiful, tough run on the Bull Run Trail in Northern Virginia.
Marathon No. 7 (February, 13): George Washington Birthday Marathon, Greenbelt, Maryland. Marathon was cancelled due to unsafe conditions caused by the snow storms a week earlier. No. 7 will have to wait. 2009 JFK 50M (9:33:53): The oldest and biggest ultramarathon in the US was much tougher than I thought it would be, which made it even better experience. Marathon No.6 (3:34:05): Marine Corps Marathon, Washington, DC Andiamo 44.7M (6:56:20): Andiamo is very low profile race organized by Virginia Happy Trail Running Club. The day was perfect for running. Start in Purcellville offers some country side view: cows, horses, and pig farms, a little later you get just a glimpse of Leesburg's historic old town, and before you know it you are in Arlington. Andiamo used to be biannual race but that changes this year when it has become an annual event. Look out for it next year. The good thing is you don't have to sign up months in advance. If you make your decision just few days before the event, you will most probably still get in. North Face Endurance Challenge 50M (9:12:05): Very nice, almost completely shaded course on a bank of beautiful Potomac River. You get to run through a very nice Great Falls Park a lot and there was a part when the trail took you to the very edge of the cliff overlooking the river. Dahlgren Heritage Rail Trail 50km (5:04:59): Nice, small (only 54 runners), well organized race and a flat but tricky (remains of railroad, especially on first third of the trail and later lots of soft gravel) surface. Organizers did outstanding job and made every runner feel at home.
Massanutten Mountain Trail 100M (DNF): It's a great and tough hundred miler but I simply wasn't prepared properly. After almost 15 hours and 65 miles I decided to drop out. I'll be back next year if, hopefully, I get on the list.
Bull Run Run 50M (9:51:19): Hemlock Overlook Regional Park, VA. Great race, wonderful organization, awesome support.
Marathon No 5 (3:17:23) Lower Potomac River Marathon is organized by wonderful people of Chesapeake Bay Running Club. The race takes place in Piney Point, MD and offers some great scenery, is nice and flat most of the time and despite its smallness gives a runner everything you can wish and more.
12K (52:47): Burke Lake, VA
Marathon No 4 (3:24:14): George Washington Birthday Marathon, Greenbelt, Maryland
2008 Half Marathon No 2 (1:31:53): Mt.Vernon Trail, Alexandria, VA
Marathon No 3 (3:21:10): Marine Corps Marathon, Washington, DC
Andiamo 44.7M (7:05:38): Disappointed by cancellation of the Endurance 50 and equipped with new information about some great web sites dedicated to ultra running I found an ultra marathon "race" right in my neck of the woods. Every other year Happy Trails organizes 44.7 mile run along Washington - Old Dominion Trail (WOD). On October 5, 2008 I was among 13 runners at the start. It was a long run. However, I successfully finished my first and very nicely organized but not really official ultra marathon.
10K (42:07): Alexandria, VA.
North Face Challenge 50M: On September 6, 2008 I was suppose to run my first ultra marathon, North Face Endurance Challenge Washington DC. Unfortunately tropical storm Hanna forced the Virginia governor to declare state of emergency, which left the organizer of the race no other option but to cancel it. Around 20 runners had decided to get together and run as long and far as conditions allowed. It was a great feeling being there among more experienced long distance runners, all of us running for the sake of running and pleasure it derives from it and nothing else. There were few wonderful people there supporting the race with aid stations and making it so much easier to run in that rain, which was unmercifully splashing down and overflowing every available piece of soil. Renegade 50, as "the race" was named, is remembered on its own web site that was put together by one of the runners, Peter Shoemaker. 10K (43:48): Fort Hunt Park in Alexandria, VA
Marathon No 2: (3:39:35) George Washington Birthday Marathon, Greenbelt, Maryland
2007 Marathon No 1 (3:25:35): Marine Corps Marathon Washington, DC
Half Marathon No 1 (1:34:42): Philadelphia Distance Run was my first race and a very nice experience. It made me fell in love with running even more.
